Replies 2. I too have heard good things about Greenville, sc. I've lived in Both. Tennessee is a better run state. Economic opportunities are plentiful for both with incomes probably slightly higher in Raleigh. Taxes were really favorable in TN. No income tax and no ridiculous property tax like in Texas. Sales tax is 9. Tennessee has free college through it's lottery programs and does a lot to push further education after highschool through cost effective means even if not the traditional college route.

You couldn't go wrong with either. Overall North Carolina is probably a better state as it has more desirable places to live, while outside of Middle Tennessee the rest of Tennessee is lacking. East Tennessee is beautiful, but full of hicks and lacks the economic opportunities. West Tennessee is comparable to Mississippi and Arkansas and really has no is it cheaper to live in north carolina or tennessee qualities outside of good food.

It's amazing how two hours away might as well be on the other side of the planet when you're embedded in the ditch of everyday life. It's better tp pick your home based on the immediate surroundings and economic factors and then hop on a plane to the Rockies or Caribbean when you get that itch. I recently bought property in NC. We debated btw the two. Then again, I moved here from Illinois, so my scale is probably a tad skewed.
